２年前の東日本大震災の津波で流されワシントン州に漂着したとみられる小型漁船内で５匹のイシダイが生息していることが明らかになりました。奇跡の魚としてこのニュースは世界を駆けめぐりました。
そのイシダイ、英語ではstriped beakfishと呼ばれています。beakはbeakerでおなじみの「口先」「鳥などのくちばし」という意味ですね。確かに愛らしい口先が印象に残る姿をしていますね。（UG）
Fish found in tsunami-tossed boat on display in US
A live fish has been discovered in a small boat that drifted from a tsunami-hit Japanese port 2 years ago to the US West Coast. It is now on public display at an aquarium in the state of Oregon.
The 10-centimeter striped beakfish was found in a box in the 5.5-meter-long fishing boat in Washington State last month.
The boat's owner, Katsuo Saito of Rikuzentakata City in northeastern Japan, says it had been taken ashore at a port at the time of the disaster. He said the fish probably came to live in the ship as it drifted to the United States.
