少し角度を変えてまとめてみます。辞書を引いてみると、「（（略式））瀬戸際政策」（『ジーニアス英和辞典　第３版』大修館）と定義されていました。ODOで確認してみると、 ‘the art or practice of pursuing a dangerous policy to the limits of safety before stopping, especially in politics’と記載されていました。
brinkという単語自体にも、「（絶壁・崖などの危険な）縁、端」(ibid)という意味があるので、関連させると覚えやすいですね。尚、brinkmanshipはイギリス式表記で、他方アメリカ表記の場合は、brinksmanshipとなるので、これも併せて覚えておこうと思います。(Shou-VR*)
