World's biggest egg to be auctioned next month

Auction house Christie's plans to put what is believed to be the world's largest egg on sale next month.

 The fossilized egg from the extinct Elephant Bird measures 30 centimeters high and 21 centimeters wide, and is about 120 times the size of an ordinary chicken egg.

It was found about 100 years ago.

Christie's official says it is very rare for Elephant Bird eggs to be discovered in such perfect shape.

 The egg is expected to fetch about 30,000 to more than 45,000 dollars at an auction in London on April 24th.

 The ostrich-like birds lived in Madagascar. They are believed to have stood more than 3 meters high and weighed about 500 kilograms. Experts say the Elephant Bird became extinct more than 200 years ago.
