pick on とjump on

「…を選ぶ, 決める」という意味のpickですが，pick onというPVの形で「…のあら捜しをする, を酷評する；〈人を〉いじめる, 苦しめる」という意味があります（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』小学館）。また，続くjump onも「〈人に〉（不等に）文句をつける, かみつく, くってかかる」という意味（同上）。
これは前置詞のon「…を攻撃［からかい］の対象として」という用法があり，そこから副詞のonにも派生したものだと考えられます。
ここでは「キャプテンの生徒に（とりわけ）厳しく接し，ミスする度に叱りつけ」と解釈できます。（Koyamamoto）
