audience

今回UG先生に投げかけていただいたaudienceの用法について調べてみました。

「（講演会音楽会などの）聴衆」という意味で知られるaudienceですが，その他に「（特定の個人グループ主義などの）信奉者, 支持者, 共鳴者, ファン」という意味があります（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』小学館）。よって，a new audience of spirited driversは「クルマ好きの新たな客層」と解釈できるのではないでしょうか。
ちなみに，自動車は好きですがUG先生の影響からか「クルマはやっぱりドイツ！」と思ってしまい，アメリカ製の車にはあまり惹かれないKoyamamotoです。（Koyamamoto）
