Hundreds attend memorial Mass: Catholics gather to honor dead
Yesterday's service opened with the presentation of a memorial wreath, offered by Gov. Eddie Calvo, Archbishop Anthony Sablan Apuron and Japanese Consul-General Hisatsugu Shimizu.
Several senators and other public officials also attended the service. Guam Delegate Madeleine Bordallo said the ceremony was beautiful. "It's something I'll always remember," she said.
During the service, Apuron called for prayers for the victims and their families, so "that God's healing grace may enter hearts of the victims." "We are not a violent community," Apuron told parishioners. "But sometimes violence occurs. It's part of our nature as human beings." The service also featured a translator, who translated the service into Japanese.
