A warmup game against the Hiroshima Carp on Sunday left Japan feeling cold.

Ace Masahiro Tanaka of the Tohoku Rakuten Eagles surrendered a pair of runs in the first inning and the Yomiuri Giants' Tetsuya Utsumi served up a three-run homer in the ninth inning of a 7-0 loss at Miyazaki's Sunmarine Stadium.

Hiroshima ace Kenta Maeda, a member of the national team who was getting a start against his World Baseball Classic teammates, started and held Japan scoreless on two hits over two frames.

Japan only had one hit the rest of the way as Carp hurlers combined to keep it hitless after the third inning.

他にも「〈物を〉譲り渡す」(ibid)などの意味がありますが、ここではa pair of runsが目的語にあります。ここでのrunは「《野球、クリケット》得点、失点」(ibid)という意味なので、よくアナウンサーが言っている「（失点を）許す」という表現になると思います。(Minnesota)
