will

フロリダで投手・捕手陣のキャンプがスタートしたこの日、NYTはヤンキースに関するちょっと辛めを記事を掲載しました。

ここのwillはどういう意味なのでしょうか。EnDoughくん、どうぞ。(UG)

Perhaps Too Much Old Glory for Yanks?

The Yankees won 95 games last year. If they say it enough, maybe they can will it to happen again. Any concerns about the age or the strength of their roster can be swatted aside by that magic number: 95. It is an indisputable fact.

And it is relevant, to a point. As their pitchers and catchers reported to spring training on Tuesday, the Yankees had no reason to apologize for last season. Four hideous playoff losses to the Detroit Tigers should not obscure all the good that came before.

“People thought we were vulnerable last year and we found a way to win 95 games, and you think about the way we went through the second half,” Manager Joe Girardi said, listing injuries to several important players. “We found a way to overcome all of that. If other clubs want to think we’re vulnerable, that’s O.K. But I like — I love — the character in that room.”
