Toyota, world’s top auto seller in 2012

In 2012, Toyota became the world’s first car seller, while General Motors ranked second followed by Volkswagen AG of Germany, which sold 9.07 million units, up 11.2 percent, according to Kyodo news agency.

Toyota’s growth was far larger as it released and sold new versions of popular models such as the Camry, while General Motors managed to sell more cars in China and the United States. However, sales in Europe dropped 8.2 percent due to the sovereign debt crisis.
