to sink into

(UG)

Japanese sink more time into Online
News On Japan via Wall Street Journal

A new government survey confirms what many optometrists, employers and significant others have long known-more Japanese, regardless of age or gender, are spending more of their lives in the ultimate time sink, the Internet.

The results of a nationwide survey by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication, showed that the biggest change in the daily habits of the Japanese from five years before was the amount of time devoted to the Internet.

The survey, based on responses from 200,000 participants in October 2011 and conducted every half-decade, measures how much time the general public spends on a typical day on basic activities such as work, leisure and meals.

It found that people spent an average 41 minutes on the Internet on weekdays, a 50% jump from 2006 when the survey was previously conducted. The time spent online on weekends increased by a similar proportion.
