'Les Miserables' relies on close-ups for emotional punch
In a twist of fate, Hooper had initially seen Hathaway singing to Jackman a boisterous version of the “Les Miserables” song “On My Own” at the 2011 Academy Awards ceremony, just when he was trying to decide whether to direct the film and was thinking about casting.
twistは動詞で「〈人が〉…をよる、より合わせる」、「〈人が〉…を［…の周りに］巻く、巻きつける」、「…を(無理に)ねじる」 名詞だと「ねじれ、捻挫」などがありますが、「(情勢などの)急変、意外な進展」という意味も持っています。(『ジーニアス英和辞典 第３版』大修館)よってtwist of fateで「運命のいたずら」という意味になります。(英辞郎on the WEB) また、Wikitionaryには"An unfortunate turn of events.
