事実、enmeshedのLDOCEの定義は" very involved in an unpleasant or complicated situation"です。(Minnesota)

Last-minute "fiscal cliff" talks continue in US

The US government and the opposition Republican Party are enmeshed in last-minute negotiations to avoid the looming "fiscal cliff. "

The White House has made a concession to Republicans by offering to limit tax hikes for the wealthy to those earning more than 400,000 dollars instead of the previously proposed 250,000 dollars.

But Republicans are calling for more concessions.

House Speaker John Boehner said on Tuesday his party wants to avoid the fiscal cliff.

But he said the White House just can't seem to bring itself to agree to a balanced approach.

Boehner said he plans to submit a bill to the House later this week that limits tax hikes to those earning over one million dollars a year.

Spending cuts and tax increases, including on the middle class, will take effect automatically in the New Year.

Unless the Democrats and Republicans reach an agreement before then, the US could drop into recession.

White House spokesperson Jay Carney said the 2 sides are very close to achieving a final deal.
