Fresh from his landslide victory in Tokyo's gubernatorial election Sunday, former Vice Gov. Naoki Inose said he was ready to continue with the capital's Olympic bid and take on the nation's bureaucracy on a live TV show Monday morning.
When asked what was behind his overwhelming win, Inose, 66, said, "The people of Tokyo responded to my argument that the metropolitan government should take the lead in changing Japan by breaking the obstacles created by the bureaucrats in Kasumigaseki."
Jokingly referring to his former boss, Shintaro Ishihara, Inose said: "I served a weird boss and I'm a weird man, too. Smart guys easily change their policies, but weird men don't."
