MLBも気になりますが，日本のCSにもどうしても注目してしまいます。昨日の西武ライオンズVS福岡ソフトバンクホークスの一戦では，最後に西武が粘りを見せるもソフトバンクに逃げ切られてしまいました。記事のsparkplugの第一義は「（内燃機関の）点火プラグ」という意味の単語ですが，人に用いる場合は「（主に米口）〈仕事・集団などの〉指導者，中心人物；（会合などの）盛り上げる人（of）」とあります（『新英和中辞典』旺文社）。使用場面によって意味は少し違ってくるかと思われますが，今回は野球なので「代打の切り札」などと訳せるかと思われます。（GP）
