The former wife of composer Andrew Lloyd Weber will be part of a three-person crew aboard the Soyuz rocket after being chosen by the Russian Space Agency. Brightman, 52, refused to confirm how much she had paid for the privilege but reports in the US claimed the singer had shelled out a staggering $51 million (£31 million).

The soprano will embark on a six-month training programme at the Star City cosmonaut training centre in Moscow in 2014. The launch date for the missing is believed to be at some point that year.

ここでは冠詞のtheが付いていることがポイントかと思われます。missingは形容詞で「あるべきところに無い、いるべきところにいない」といった意味ですが、辞書で調べてみると、「(名詞的に)[the〜;複数扱い]行方不明者たち」という意味(『新英和中辞典』、研究社)があり、名詞的に使われることがあります。よってこの文脈ではサラ・ブライトマンを含めた宇宙旅行に参加する人を指しています（cf. the rich）。ということで「地球にいない人のための打ち上げ日は」という感じでしょうか。（EnDough）
