なんとThe Beach Boysの５０周年の記念ツアーで、オリジナル・メンバーの三人、孤高の天才Brian Wilson、Al Jardine、David Marksが解雇されてしまいました。特に多くのファンはBrian Wilsonの姿を見たかったはずなので、これは大きなニュースです。

赤字で示したharmonyですが、これには２つの意味が掛けられています。まず、The Beach Boysが持つ美しく洗礼された「ハーモニー」と、第２にバンドの仲という意味の「調和」という意味合いです。The Beach Boysの話題が出たら、このharmonyが使われるだろうな、と思っていたのが的中しました。
最後まで読んでいると、Wilson以下２名が、解雇された事実について少し納得することができました。それは、最後のパラグラフで “sees a clear distinction between the Beach Boys as a recording and a touring unit.”とあるように、ツアーとレコーディングでは環境がまったく違うため、Mike Loveの理想と他のメンバーの意見が衝突するのも仕方がなかったことなのかもしれません。それでもメンバーのほとんどが７０歳以上。また素晴らしい作品を世に届けてくれることを祈ります。(Othello)
