ヤンキースのイチローは１９日、ニューヨークでのブルージェイズとのダブルヘッダー第２試合に先発で出場し、４打数４安打１打点と大活躍しました。首位争いの大一番でしたが、悪天候のため最初から水入りとなり、この日、前日の分とあわせてのダブルヘッダーとなりました。それがイチローの活躍につながりました。これも天の恵み（Mother Nature）だったのでしょうか。（GP）

Yankees Defeat Blue Jays 4-2 In Doubleheader Opener

Tuesday night was supposed to be a grand return of Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte, but Mother Nature had other plans, forcing last night’s game to be rescheduled for this afternoon. Despite the change of schedule, Pettitte still tossed 75 pitches in five shutout innings, leading the Yankees to a 4-2 victory over the Blue Jays. This afternoon’s victory in Game One of a day-night doubleheader gave the Yankees a half-game lead over the Orioles for first place in the American League East.

Pettitte would run into trouble in the second, third and fourth innings, allowing two runners on base in each of those innings. But the left-hander would work his way out of trouble and pick up his fourth win of the season (4-3, 2.97 ERA). The star player of the game was Ichiro Suzuki, who not only went 3-for-4 at the plate, but made a potential game-saving catch to end a Toronto rally in the top of the eight.
