China airline chief scrubs meeting with Fukushima governor amid Senkaku spat; youths snub kudos

SHANGHAI — The chairman of China Eastern Airlines canceled a meeting Wednesday with visiting Fukushima Gov. Yuhei Sato amid heightened Tokyo-Beijing tensions over a territorial row in the East China Sea, just days after his departure aboard one of the carrier's chartered flights pointed to the resumption of service to his nuclear disaster-hit prefecture.

Aides to Sato said the airline canceled the Wednesday afternoon meeting just before it was slated to take place.
On Tuesday, Li Jiayang, head of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, also dropped a meeting with Sato scheduled the same day in Beijing.
The Chinese moves came after Japan announced Tuesday that the central government had bought privately owned land on the Senkaku Islands, known in China as Diaoyu, and put them under state control.
