sieve
Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary & Thesaurusには、 ”a tool consisting of a wood, plastic or metal frame with a wire or plastic net fixed to it. You use it either to separate solids from a liquid, or you rub larger solids through it to make them smaller.
英語圏にいたときには、have a head (or memory, mind) lìke a sieveというsimileを耳にしたことが何度もあります。これは"to have a poor memory, to have difficulty remembering things"という意味で、現在のわたしのことです。 (UG)
