中国の丹羽大使が乗った公用車（トヨタ レクサス LS 600h）襲撃事件の犯人に関しては、「偽造ナンバーを使用していた」、「現在も逃げている」、「確保された」など情報が交錯しているようです。いずれにしても彼らが使用したクルマの一台がBMWだったことはまちがいないようです（もう一台はAudi）。

日本側としてはこれ以上、問題が大きくならないようにと考えているようで、中国政府も同意見のようです。英語ではnip problems in budと表現されてありました。これは日本語にも入っている表現で、「〜の芽をつむ、〜を未然に防ぐ」の意味であることは容易に想像できます。nipのあとの「〜」には、problemの他、evil、plotなどそのまま放置しているいけないものが来ます。

Envoy urges close Japan-China communication to nip problems in bud
BEIJING, Aug. 29, Kyodo

Japan's Ambassador to China Uichiro Niwa said Wednesday that Japan and China should keep in close communication with each other to ensure that individual problems between the two countries do not undermine the overall bilateral relationship.

"Through close exchanges of views, we should ensure that individual problems do not exert influence on the broader Japan-China relationship," Niwa said at a symposium, his first public appearance since his official vehicle was attacked in Beijing on Monday amid widespread anti-Japan demonstrations in China related to a territorial dispute.

The symposium was held as part of events to mark the 40th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and communist China.
