このように日本語では「中止要請」や「中止を働きかける」といったマイルドな言い方になっていますが、英語のadvise、さらにはstronglyがこれにつくと文字通り、「強い勧告」となります。学生の中にはI advise that~ (もっと悪いパタンでは*I advise you~）などと気軽に使う者がいますが、adviseはこのように強い調子の動詞です。（UG）
S. Korean Pres. Lee to visit disputed islets on Friday: sources

South Korea notified Japan on Thursday that President Lee Myung Bak on Friday will visit a group of islets controlled by Seoul but claimed by Tokyo, sources close to bilateral ties said.
Japan strongly advised South Korea to cancel the visit to avoid damaging bilateral ties, already tense due to the dispute and other issues, the sources added.
If the visit to the islet group in the Sea of Japan, called Takeshima in Japan and Dokdo in South Korea, is realized, it would be the first such visit by a South Korean president since the territorial row over the islands surfaced decades ago. Tension between the two countries is certain to rise further.
