have no answer for

そのリベンジにあたる英語表現のひとつが have(had) no answer forです。answerには「報復、お返し」の意味があり、ここではagainと、ともにno answerと強い否定形が用いられていて、「無念のストレート負け」のニュアンスがにじみ出ます。(Minnesota)

Olympics: Nishikori's path to last 4 blocked by Del Potro

LONDON (Kyodo) -- Kei Nishikori again had no answer for Juan Martin del Potro on Thursday, going out in the Olympic tennis quarterfinals 6-4, 7-6(4) at the hands of the world No. 9.

Nishikori is now 0-4 for his career against del Potro. He was trying to become the first male Japanese player to reach the Olympic semifinals in 92 years.

Del Potro will face seven-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer in Friday's semifinal. Andy Murray will take on Novak Djokovic in the other match at the All England Club.

"It came down to the tiebreak. I'm not thrilled," said Nishikori, ranked 17th in the world. "I couldn't serve and I could never get into a rhythm. And I had my serve all week up until now."

"Del Potro's still a better player than me. I've got to be able to beat him with my groundstrokes to have a chance. I might be getting closer, but it's still tough for me."

While he continued to own bragging rights, del Potro said the gap between him and Nishikori is closing fast.

"I think his game is improving day by day," del Potro said. "Today was really close for me, but I'm very glad to go through. Nishikori is a fantastic player and I wish him good luck."

"I got a little lucky in the tiebreak and I think that was the key. But the match was really tough for both."

Nishikori, the first man from Japan to reach the last eight at the Summer Games in 88 years, kept it close with the Argentine in a rematch of this year's Wimbledon affair, a night after stunning Spain's world No. 5 David Ferrer.

At Wimbledon, del Potro plowed through Nishikori in the third round, winning in straight sets in the Japanese star's return from a layoff of two months precipitated by an abdominal injury.
