しかし今年のEUROは大混戦でベスト4を当てるのは難しく多くのサッカーファンは涙を呑んでいることでしょう。元リバプールFCの名DFで今はサッカー解説者のアランハンセンさんもその一人です。
Alan Hansen drops a clanger with Euro 2012 'top four' predictions
BBC football pundit Alan Hansen dropped a major clanger just days before Euro 2012 is due to kick off with his predictions for the tournament.
The former Liverpool defender, who reportedly earns £40,000 a show on Match of the Day, picked Spain, Germany, the Netherlands and Portugal.
Unfortunately for the Scot - Germany, the Netherlands and Portugal are all in Group B, making it impossible for all three to reach the knockout stages in Poland and Ukraine.
He said the 'usual suspects' will be the teams that make up the final.
'Spain won it last time and they won the World Cup in 2010. They have got the best players so they are the favourites and rightly so, but that doesn't necessarily mean they will win it, and it will be close.
'As well as the Germans and the Dutch, I think Portugal are in the mix too.'
Gary Lineker tried to defend his MOTD colleague over the blunder, saying: 'Alan Hansen's not as daft as some of you were hoping. They were his top 4 contenders, not his 4 semi-finalists.'
However, the BBC moved swiftly to erase Portugal from Hansen's list this morning, leaving him as the only pundit involved in the prediction article not to pick a fourth team.
Germany were the most fancied team by BBC's host of pundits, with nine picking Joachim Loew's men to succeed, while only Alan Shearer said England would bring home the trophy.

punditはヒンディー語から派生した単語で「(インドの)賢者、学者という意味(『ジーニアス英和辞典』、第4版、大修館書店)です。
そして、この単語がインド人以外に使われると「(皮肉的に)博識者、専門家:学者先生」という意味(ibid)になります。何か文化的背景を感じる単語です。
ここでのpunditは予想を外したハンセンさんを指しているので、後者の意味で用い、予想を外した彼を実に気持ちよく皮肉ってますね。(EnDough)
