北海道の学会に行か（け）なかったので思わぬ時間ができ、結果、乱読、乱聴、乱観（？）の週末です。
シンガポールのStraight Times Onlineに初見の単語があったので紹介します。

このchopeはまったく知らなかった単語でした。読者がマナー違反を紙上で「告発」するコーナー（This Urban Jungle）にあったものです。意味は文脈から類推できますが、気になると調べないとすまないのでチェックしてみました。

もちろん通常の辞書に載っているわけもなく、こういうときの神頼みであるUrban Dictionary On-lineで見ると、ありました！

chope "the act of reserving your place"

やはり「席をおさえておく」行動のことでした。日本ではお花見のときなどに行われるあれです。定義にあるhawker centreはシンガポール（広くは東南アジア全般）にある「屋台村」のことです。市場に集う行商人（hawker）が集まることからこう呼ばれるようになったそうです。そこから図書館などの席取りにも使われるようになったものと推測できます。
こんな恩恵があるので落ち穂拾いはやめられません。（UG）
