１４日午後１１時５分ごろ、茨城県牛久市のペットショップ「猛禽屋（もうきんや）」で、経営者の父親である藤田正二さん（６６）が倒れているのを妻（７０）が発見、１１９番しましたが、藤田さんは搬送先の病院で死亡が確認されました。警察はヘビに襲われて死亡した可能性があるとみて司法解剖して死因を調べています。

Police in Ibaraki Prefecture on Monday were investigating the death of a man whose body was found next to a 6.5-meter python.
Shoji Fujita, 66, was found dead outside his home Sunday in Ushiku, 50 kilometers northeast of Tokyo, with a reticulated python sitting next to him, a local police spokesman said.
The snake was kept by his son, who operated an exotic pet store in the same city, the spokesman said.
Fujita told his wife he was going outside to check the temperature of a locked reptile compound next to the couple’s house. When he failed to return, the woman went to check and found her recumbent husband with bite marks on his head and right arm, said the spokesman, adding that an autopsy was being carried out to determine the exact cause of death.
“We believe there is a high likelihood of an accident,” in which somehow the snake got out of its container and killed Fujita, the police spokesman said.

記事では「倒れている」に相当する英語をrecumbentと表現していました。これはもちろんrecumbentは"lying down"ですが、「横臥位の, 横臥の」を意味するrecumbentはこんな時にも使えるのですね。美術で「横向きになった姿」 をa recumbent figureやa recumbent Buddha「横向きの仏像ーー涅槃図」というのは知っていましたが、勉強になりました。（UG）
