ワシントンで男性がテロ容疑により逮捕されました。FBIはテロ行為を未然に防ぐためおとり捜査を行っていますが，おとり捜査は英語でsting operationと言います（『オーレックス英和辞典』旺文社）。stingには米俗の動詞用法で「…をだます」という意味があり，これがoperationと一緒になるとcompound wordの一部になるんですね。ちなみに，以下の英文ではsting(s)という形にもなっています。（Sugiuchi）
