bang it on~

(Othello
Noda appears in eye patch for tax fight
POLITICS JAN. 17, 2012 - 06:49AM JST ( 37 )
Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda was sporting a literal black eye Monday as he sought to avoid a metaphorical one in a fight over tax policy.

Noda appeared at his Democratic Party of Japan’s annual convention wearing a white patch over his right eye, its cords looped awkwardly across his face and around each ear, rather than in a pirate-style slant.

At the meeting, he reiterated his resolve to extract the country from a debt mire by raising sales tax, as his struggle to impose the unpopular policy threatens to define his four-month-old premiership.

But it was his appearance that attracted the most comment.

Japanese media reported that the prime minister fell over in the dark in his official residence on Sunday night after returning from dinner with business leaders, and now had a black mark under his eye.

There was no suggestion that the prime minister had been drinking, but informal meetings in Japan are frequently lubricated by alcohol.

An embarrassed-looking Noda told reporters: “I banged it on something.”
