世界陸上・韓国テグ２日目。男子100m決勝であのような展開になるとは誰が思っていたでしょうか。様々なドラマが見られた昨日の試合から，DYでは男子400m予選を取り上げています。義足ランナーとして知られているOscar Pistorius選手。Making the cut / 'Blade Runner' Pistorius makes IAAF history, advances with 3rd-place finish in 400 heatは陸上の記事というより「彼の記事」と呼ぶことができるような内容です。以下は記事の一部抜粋です。

辞書を引くと「[C]切断手術を受けた人」（『ジーニアス英和辞典』大修館書店，第４版），英英辞書でもsomeone who has had an arm or leg amputatedとあります（LDOCE）。
動詞はamputateで「[他]《正式》（外科手術として）〈手・脚など〉を切断する」（同上），to cut off someone’s arm, leg, finger etc during a medical operation（同上）です。

この記事を読んでいるときに目に止まったのが，以下の部分です。
While understanding the attention he has drawn in Daegu, Pistorius said he doesn't consider himself a trailblazer for disabled athletes.
"I feel like any other athlete here," said Pistorius, who spent nearly an hour giving innumerable interviews. "I know each person works extremely hard to do what they do.
"I don't really feel like a pioneer, but I'm honored to be in the position I'm in."
