asahi.com（3/27/11付）の記事，“NPB needs a leader, not Kato the cipher”から英語表現を拾っていきます。開幕問題で揺れていたプロ野球のセ・リーグでしたが，先日ようやく決着がつきました。開幕日をパ・リーグと同じ４月12日とし，また4月中のナイターゲームを自粛すると発表しました。

今回注目する表現はleave twisting in the windです。辞書で意味を調べてみると「〈人〉を苦しい状況のままにしておく」とありました（『ジーニアス英和辞典』第4版，大修館書店）。また，他の辞書でも調べてみるとleave（let）twist（swing）in the windという言い方もできると記されていました（『ウィズダム英和辞典』第2版，三省堂）。
電力不足の影響で，計画停電が実施されている今の状況を考えれば，もっと早く決断ができたはずですが，セ・リーグは開幕日決定に至るまで，長い時間を費やしました。最終的には4月12日開幕に決まりましたが，選手達も「人として」「選手として」どう対処すればいいのか随分振り回された結果となりました。今回の表現にはそういった状態を表しています。（ゼミ生 gacha）
