The Asahi Shimbun（01/27/11付け）から，先日のサッカー日本代表韓国戦に関するKawashima saves day for Samurai Blueという記事を見ていきます。以下は一部引用です。
With the game tied 2-2 after 30 minutes of extra time at Al Gharafa Stadium in Qatar, Japan beat rival South Korea 3-0 in the penalty shootout. しかし，ここでは動詞として用いられています。『新英和中辞典』（第5版，研究社）を調べると「〈…の〉まわりに集まって歓呼［やじ］を浴びせる:The children mobbed the baseball star.（子供たちは歓声をあげて野球の花形選手を取り囲んだ。）」とありました。今回は好セーブを見せた川島選手の周りにチームメイトが彼の健闘をほめるために集まったという文脈なので，やじではなく歓声が当てはまります。
また，『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第3版，大修館書店）には〔「動きやすい（mobile）」が原義〕とあり納得しました。（ゼミ生 pear）
