日英の違い

今週木曜日（10/14/10），Compositionの授業で田邉先生がexplicitな英語とimplicitな日本語のことについて説明されていましたが，10月8日の天声人語の冒頭とその対訳を比較していると，先生がおっしゃっていた日英の違いの例として適当と思われるものを見つけましたので，ブログで紹介したいと思います。（院生 小山本）

　ノーベル化学賞を受ける鈴木章さん（８０）、根岸英一さん（７５）の功績は、つまりは研究室と工場をつないだことである。研究の成果は今、医薬や農薬、液晶などの生産に生かされているという。

Simply put, it is for linking the lab to the factory that two Japanese scientists and one American researcher--Akira Suzuki, 80, Ei-ichi Negishi, 75, and Richard Heck, 79--are sharing this year's Nobel Prize in Chemistry. I understand that the fruits of their research are being applied to the manufacture of drugs, pesticides, liquid crystals and other products.
