outfit

(UG)
Soccer: Uchida out with broken toe
FRANKFURT (Kyodo) -- Japan defender Atsuto Uchida had broken his toe during last week's friendly against Paraguay, making his return for Schalke 04 uncertain, the Bundesliga outfit announced Thursday.
"Atsuto has probably broken his toe," Schalke coach Felix Magath said on the club website, ahead of Friday's match at first-place Hoffenheim. "It doesn't look like he'll be able to play."
Uchida, who just signed with the team this summer from J-League first division champions Kashima Antlers, had to come off with one minute remaining during the Sept. 4 victory over Paraguay citing pain in his left foot.
The 22-year-old Uchida did not play in the win against Guatemala in Osaka three days later. At the time, acting coach Hiromi Hara said he did not believe the injury to be serious.
Schalke did say the diagnosis is not final, but an injury of any kind is the last thing Uchida needs as he tries to win Magath's confidence in the early going of his first European season.
