『ウィズダム英和辞典』を確認したところ、「≪…のために/…として≫〈費用・金など〉をとっておく、充てる；〈人・物〉を選ぶ≪for/as≫」とありました。また、LDOCEでは“to decide that something will be used for a particular purpose or have something done to it in the future”と定義されています。
