My impressions of a special lecture
Dr. Tanabe gave a special lecture to junior high school students under the title of “Use Your English dictionaries Fully” yesterday. Almost all members of Dr. Tanabe’s seminar took part in the lecture. Let me tell you about my impressions about it.
The lecture was consisted of two parts. In the first part, he talked about the basics of using a dictionary. In the second part, students put into practice what they have just heard from him with us, seminar students. The students were broken into 10 groups, and seminar students walked them through actual use of a dictionary.
We taught them five English words, they looked up each of them by using their own dictionaries. I was in charge of one of the groups. I had never experienced teaching English. The situation gave me the cold feet. As a result, my voice was very small, and I didn’t know what I wanted to say. But those in my group listened to me intently. Then, they occasionally responded by shouting “Wow!”, “I didn’t know that!”and so on. That made me happy, and I am so grateful to them.
I learned that it was really difficult to teach English to students. But at the same time, I got a fascinating time. Thank you so much to all of them and Dr. Tanabe for giving me a valuable opportunity. (amphibian)
