repatriate / rìːpéɪtrièɪt / を取り上げます。以前unpatrioticを取り上げたことがあるのでpatrioticで「愛国的な」を意味し、語源はpater「父」からきていることは知っていました。接頭辞reが付くとどんな意味になるのでしょうか。『ジーニアス英和辞典』で調べると「〈難民・亡命者など〉を［本国へ］送還する」「〈資産・利益など〉を［本国へ］送り返す」と２つの意味を確認できました。いずれにしても「本国へ」が強調されているように感じます。

LDOCEでは“to send someone back to their own country” “to send profits or money you have earned back to your own country”と定義されています。またdeportと置き換えることができ、反義語にexpatriateとありました。(Kiwi girl)
