イラン北東部で続いている反政府デモに対しハッサン・ロウハニ大統領は国民の政府に対して抗議することを容認しました。
Iranians are free to protest against the government but must not jeopardies security, President Hassan Rouhani has said after four days of demonstrations.
Speaking at a cabinet session, he acknowledged that there were problems that needed to be solved but warned that violence would not be tolerated.
The protests have been the biggest show of dissent since huge rallies in2009.
There have been clashes in several cities, and Iran has restricted social networks used to organize protests.

The protests began in the north-eastas an outcry against economic hardship and rising prices, but turned political in many places, with slogans chanted against Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Mr Rouhani and Iran's interventionist foreign policy in the region.
In his latest tweet on the issue, US President Donald Trump said that Iranians were "finally getting wise as to how their money and wealth is being stolen and squandered on terrorism".
“squander” /ˈskwɑːn.dɚ / を取り上げます。『ジーニアス英和辞典』(大修館) によると、「(時間、お金などを) 無駄にする、散財する」といった意味があるとわかります。またロングマン英英辞典をみてみると“to waste money or supplies, or to waste opportunities by not using them to your advantage” とあり、普段節制などで制限を設けていたものが外れ、お金などを散財する様子を表しているといえます。
さらに調べてみると、他の「無駄にする、散財する、浪費する」といった意義をもつ語と “squander” では若干ニュアンスが異なることがわかりました。上にもあるように “squander” は、普段はしないがたまに気が大きくなったり浮かれたりしたためにお金や時間などを無駄に使うといった場面で用いられるそうです。
同じく「浪費する」という意味を含む “waste” をみてみると、 “an unnecessary or wrong use of money, substances, time, energy, abilities, etc.” というお馴染みの意義の他に “to use too much of something or use something badly when there is a limited amount of it” と定義されているのがわかります。つまり寿命や限界を迎え使えなくなることがいえます。したがって “waste” は今まで大切に使用していたものが駄目になってしまうニュアンスを伴うことがわかります。
また “throw away” をみてみると “made to be destroyed after use” とあり、使用後に駄目になってしまうことがうかがえます。したがって “throw away” には使い方や振る舞いの結果、残念なことに駄目になってしまうニュアンスが含まれると推察できるでしょう。
さらに “spoil” をみてみると “to destroy or reduce the pleasure, interest, or beauty of something” と定義され他に意識が働いたために無駄になってしまう様を指しているといえます。
政府はこれまでソーシャルメディアを通じデモの呼びかけを制限するなどしてデモの鎮圧に努めましたが、デモは収まらず認めるまでに至ったそうです。(Hapidra)
