celibacy/séləbəsi/を取り上げます。『ジーニアス英和辞典』によると「（特に宗教上の誓いによる）独身［禁欲］（主　　義）」とありました。こちらの表現は主に女性に用いますが、unmarried stateの方が好ましいようです。上記の場合宗教が絡んでいるのでcelibacyの方が使用されたと思われます。

つづいてLDOCEを引くとcelibateのところに“not married and not having sex, especially because of your religious beliefs”と定義されており、celibacyに使用例として“a vow of celibacy”と記載されていました。(Kiwi girl)
