　熊本市の市議会で女性議員が生後７ヶ月の長男を連れて出席しようとし、開会が40分遅れるということがありました。

7-month-old baby gets the boot from local assembly session

While politicians often follow in the footsteps of a parent and start their careers young, the presence of a 7-month-old boy in an assembly session here caused quite a stir Nov. 22.

The tot in question was brought to a Kumamoto municipal assembly plenary session in the arms of his mother, assembly member Yuka Ogata, but was quickly removed.

“I wanted to highlight the difficulties facing women who are trying to juggle their careers and raise children,” Ogata, 42, said after the session.

　plenaryを取り上げます。sessionが後ろに続くことから、議会のことをさしていると考えられます。『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版　研究社）で調べると「1（格式）（会議などが）全員出席の　2（格式）（権力などが）絶対的な、最大限の；（使節などが）全権を有する」とありました。例として “a plenary session (meeting)” で「本会議、総会」が取り上げられています。

　LDOCEには “involving all the members of a committee, organization etc” や “plenary powers are complete powers with no limit” と定義されています。

　熊本市議会の規則では、本会議中は議員意外は議場に入ることができないということになっており、結局緒方議員は長男を友人に預け、出席することとなりました。しかし、海外では議場に赤ちゃんを連れて入った事例もあり、今回のことについては賛否の両方の見方があるようです。（aqua）
