　日曜日、日本に来日したトランプ大統領は北朝鮮の拉致被害者の遺族のみなさんと面会しました。
US President Donald Trump, who arrived in Japan on Sunday, is scheduled to meet the families of Japanese nationals abducted by North Korea.

The families will visit Trump at the State Guest House in Tokyo on Monday.

Shigeo Iizuka, the head of a group of abductees' families, Sakie Yokota, the mother of abductee Megumi Yokota, and former abductee Hitomi Soga, who returned to Japan in 2002, will speak with the US president.

Iizuka's sister, Yaeko Taguchi, was abducted and taken to North Korea. Megumi Yokota was kidnapped when she was 13.
Soga's mother has been unaccounted for since she was abducted, together with her daughter.

　“abductees families” を取り上げます。『ジーニアス英和辞典第5版』(大修館) によると、“abduct” には「誘拐する、拉致する」という意味があるとわかります。また英英辞典を見てみると、“to force someone to gosomewhere with you, often using threats or violence” とあるように脅威や力を伴い誰かをどこかに拐う様を表しているといえます。したがって今回の文脈に沿って考えると「拉致された人々の家族」と直訳でき、「拉致被害者の遺族」と意訳できるでしょう。

　“abduct” は、ラテン語でもともと「取り去る」というニュアンスのある “abductus” あるいは “abdūcere” から派生してできた語であるということがわかりました。さらに、「離れた」という意義のある接頭辞 “ad” と、「導く」といったニュアンスのある “duct” が結び付いて「誘拐する、拉致する」という意味になったそうです。
　北朝鮮情勢が緊迫する中で今回の行動はトランプ大統領が日本に来日した大きな目的ではないかと思いました。大統領は拉致被害者の遺族のみなさんと面会し何を感じたのでしょうか。(Hapidra)
