Body parts of at least nine people have been discovered at an apartment in Zama, Kanagawa Prefecture, as police were searching for a missing woman, investigative sources said Tuesday.

The Metropolitan Police Department on Tuesday arrested the apartment’s resident, Takahiro Shiraishi, 27, on suspicion of abandoning bodies sometime between Aug. 22 and Monday.

Shiraishi admitted to murdering them and cutting up their bodies, the sources said. The nine people are apparently eight women and one man.

The sources quoted Shiraishi as saying that he intended to destroy evidence. He also told police investigators that the bodies were cut up in a bathroom. He also admitted to murdering the 23-year-old missing woman from Hachioji, Tokyo, the sources said.

　LDOCEには “cut something up” の形で “to cut something into small pieces” と定義されています。イギリス英語では、”cut somebody/something up” で “to suddenly drive in front of a moving vehicle in a dangerous way” とも定義されており、自動車の運転で割り込んでくることを表すことがわかりました。

　容疑者の供述から、金銭やわいせつ目的だったことがわかってきています。中には自殺目的で集まった人もいるようです。（aqua）
