今回はfly-by-nightに注目しました。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版，大修館）によると、「信頼できない，怪しげな」、「無責任な，目先の利益だけ考える」、「長続きしない，一時的な」などと載っておりました。LDOCE(5th)には、 “a flu-by-night company or businessman is one that you cannot trust because they have only been in business for a short time and are only interest in making quick profits”と説明されております。
ちなみに名詞では、「（借金して）夜逃げする人，信頼でいない人」や「夜遊びする人（fly-by-nighter）」という意味があるとのことです。(Gomez)
