今回はlooを取り上げます。Oxford Dictionary of English(Second Edition Reserved, Oxford University Press)には、 "a toilet"と載っておりました。様々な説があるようですが、waterlooが語源の一つのようです。waterlooの説明に "a trade name for iron cisterns"とありました。つまり鉄の貯水タンク（水槽）のことのようです。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版，大修館）で調べたところ、「便所，トイレ」と書かれておりました。イギリス英語だそうで、theを付けて使用することが一般的だそうです。(Gomez)
