MSDF to join U.S. warship on exercise to deter North Korea

Maritime Self-Defense Force ships will participate in a joint exercise with a U.S. strike group currently sailing toward waters off the Korean Peninsula, a Japanese government source revealed April 11.

The drill is scheduled to be held in the East China Sea and western waters off Kyushu island, according to the source.

The plan is believed to have been drafted after Japan and the United States agreed to strongly contain North Korea in light of its repeated provocative acts, such as launching ballistic missiles.
