　sitに注目します。腰を下ろす、座るという意味がまず思い浮かびますが、ここでは異なる意味で用いられています。『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版）で調べると、他動詞で「（英）（筆記試験）を受ける」という意味が見つかりました。記事の本文における“sit the entrance exam” は「入学試験を受ける」となります。

LDOCEには “British English to take an examination” と定義されています。
