既に取り上げられている記事になりますが、気になる表現がありましたので調べました。

airborne /ˈeər·bɔrn / を取り上げます。airが含まれているため、空気に関連することばであることがわかります。『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版 研究社）で調べると、形容詞で「1（叙述）離陸した、飛行中の 2（限定）（種子などが）空気で運ばれる 3（限定）（部隊が）空輸された、空挺（くうてい）の」と、いくつか意味があることがわかりました。記事の本文では “airborne allergens” とアレルゲンについて述べられていることから、2つ目の「（種子などが）空気で運ばれる」という意味が適するかと思われます。
ではairとborneに分けて考えます。borneはbearの過去分詞形です。bearには「（…を）運ぶ、持って（連れて）いく」という意味があります。（『ライトハウス英和辞典』）airにborneがつくことで「…で運ばれる」という意味が加わり、上記のような意味になると考えられます。（aqua）
