Kim Jong Nam ‘poisoned’ with ricin or puffer fish toxin

Malaysian police suspect Kim Jong Nam, the North Korean leader’s half brother, was poisoned with either ricin or tetrodotoxin, the Malaysian Sin Chew Daily online reported on Thursday.

According to the daily, a bottle of liquid poison that could have been used to kill Kim was found in the bag of one of the suspects, Doan Thi Huong, a 28-year-old woman with a Vietnamese passport. She was arrested on Wednesday.

An autopsy on Kim was completed Wednesday night, but the cause of death has not been revealed.

It is believed a poison stronger than potassium cyanide was used to kill Kim.

Ricin, a lethal chemical found in the seeds of castor-oil plants, was used in 1978 to assassinate a Bulgarian dissident writer in Britain.

Tetrodotoxin, also known as puffer fish poison, is said to have a toxicity about 1,000 times that of potassium cyanide.
