都内の20代後半の女性や外国人の観光客をターゲットに限界集落の古民家をリノベーションして宿を一棟貸し出すという「田舎も都会もある暮らし」を目指した取り組みがあると以前知り、偶然にもそれについて書かれた記事があったので興味を持ちました。
Old Japanese house mixes nostalgia, novelty for foreign tourists
FUEFUKI — An old traditional Japanese house with the charm of a countryside idyll, and a lodging with all the modern amenities sought by foreign travelers and young Japanese women. A house reminiscent of the old days, but also a novelty for the young.
This is the best of both worlds that lodging owner Yoshie Hoyo wants to offer, and a growing number of overseas visitors to Japan are making this lodging a destination in itself.
“idyll”/ɪdəla/ を取り上げます。『ジーニアス英和辞典』によると「田園風景(生活)」とありました。LDOCEでは“place or experience in which everything is peaceful and everyone is perfectly happy”と定義されています。ギリシャ語 のeidỳllion から由来しており、短い田園詩のeíd(os)と、指小接尾辞の-yllion が組み合わっているようです。指小辞は小さい、親愛の情、雰囲気の軽さ、などの意味を付け加えるために名詞の後に付け加えて用いることから、語源から明らかですが、田園風景や生活といったものに愛着や親近感が湧くものという意味合いがあるとわかりました。(lua)
