ニュージーランドで発生した地震の記事について取り上げたいと思います。

今回取り上げる表現は"Ring of Fire"というフレーズです。直訳すると「火のリング」となりますがここではどのように用いられているのでしょうか。
そこで『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第５版）を調べてみると「環太平洋火山帯」という意味が記載されており、Word Reference com には"Geologythe linear zone of seismic and volcanic activity that coincides in general with the margins of the Pacific Plate."と定義されていました。
したがってここでは、ニュージーランドの島が(悪い意味でよく知られた)環太平洋火山帯の上に位置すると訳せると思いました。(Mt.Fuji)
