The Emperor and Empress on Thursday visit a reconstructed fish market in Otsuchi, Iwate Prefecture, that was devastated by a massive tsunami in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. The Imperial couple watched the sorting of fish that had just been caught, including mackerels and young yellowtails, and the Emperor spoke to local fishery cooperative members and others, saying such things as: “You must have had a tough time during the disaster,” and “How was the catch today?”

『リーダーズ英和中辞典』(研究社)で調べると, 「(帯)黄色の尾をもつ魚」(ブリ, silver perch (ベニ科), rainbow runner, pinfish, spotや大西洋西部産のフエダイなど)とありました。

English Oxforddictionaries.com には “a marine fish that has yellow coloration on the fins, especially a number of species prized as food fish” と定義されています。

このように “yellowtail” は, 一種類の魚を指すのではなく, 同じ特徴をもつ数種類の魚を表すことがわかりました。(Cayu)
