“tucked ”を取り上げます。語源は、中世英語の tuken で「激しく引っ張る」という意味があるそうです。ワイシャツのすそを中へ入れるときや、毛布などで包み込むという時に使われる表現でもありますが、記事の中にある写真を見るとよくわかるように、手を顎の下にしまい込むように置いている姿を表していることがわかりました。『ジーニアス英和辞典』によると「しまいこむ」という意味があるように、引っ張るという意味の語源からこのようにunderneathと繋げて派生していることがわかりました。
